Globe artichoke flowers are some of my favs, so rather than cut off the buds to eat, I wait and watch them erupt into their rich purple blooms.
They're like giant thistle flowers.
This painting is of the heirloom purple artichoke that has purple/red globes that are eaten raw and young in France and Italy.
The sculptural artichoke globe offers a great opportunity to play with my newly found acrylic inks. They combine the fluidity of watercolour with robust pigment of acrylic and can be painted directly onto the canvas. I overlaid some of the background with thin layers of acrylic paint.
The canvas is 408 mm wide by 509 mm high and 35 mm deep and the edges are painted so it's ready to hang.
It would be great for any kitchen, dining or conservatory space.
