The coastal environment I live in is sometimes a magnet for monarch butterflies during the winter. They hang in the pohutukawa trees and the air becomes an orange flutter.
The place also provides a haven for the caterpillars as they form and hatch from their chrysalis in summer and autumn.
With them, the monarchs bring the wonder of transformation.
