Chrysalises are cocoons of mystery and metamorphosis.

And they seem like nature's precious jewels.

On the coast where I live, lots of monarch butterfly chrysalises hang expectantly each year before hatching into their new-found form.

This chrysalis painting captures some of this anticipation and ripening pulsation.

It is a mix of transparent acrylic inks and acrylic paint.

The canvas is 510 mm wide x 760 mm by 35 mm deep and is painted on the edges ready to hang..
