Once upon a tide....

Big moon big tides

We've just passed full moon, and full moons bring big tides. The ocean breathes big breaths with big impact.

That impact is even bigger if the full moon happens when the moon is at its closest to the earth creating the highest tides of the year, called king tides. Next full moon,14th June, will bring with it king tides, and because I'm lucky enough to live by the sea, we notice big tides here. Kayaks are pulled up onto the sand-dunes, dotterels scuttle to higher ground, and mussels are within easy reach at low tide.

Big tides also bring opportunities to launch boats that need extra deep water. Big tides sweep the beach clean and when they breathe out they expose treasures and sometimes trash that are usually hidden from view. They are windows of possibility. As are the big tides of life.

My painting (The Wave) done many years ago, speaks to the waiting, the knowing and the prepared-ness to enter and explore life's big tide moments.

Tides within tides

All of us feel the push and pull of life's big tides to varying degrees regardless of where we live. We might be energized physically. We might feel more ebullient emotionally. We may be compelled mentally. And we're more tuned spiritually.

While ocean tides are activated by the moon cycles, there are greater cosmic tides with their own celestial circuits and cycles. The ancients had an intimate knowledge of these and developed a sophisticated science by which the tides of human activity resonated with the cosmic currents. While the rich storehouse of that knowledge has been largely lost, our receptivity to the greater tides persists. It's part of our human heritage. We are sometimes stirred to take action on an impulse. Or something that has been sleeping for decades, centuries, or even millennia, wakes up and demands attention and action.

We know when it's time, often without knowing how we know. And sometimes our individual promptings correlate with greater community, national and international tide timings. During these times there is almost a universal nudge that translates into individual callings.

I feel we're in one of those big tide moments now - globally. I wonder whether there's a meshing of cosmic cycles within other cosmic cycles that is creating a cumulative current that is impacting us. An energetic version of a mechanical accumulator. A gossamer geared amplifier.

I did this painting called The Cosmic Egg decades ago. It shows horizons within horizons, and alignments within alignments that surely would create a cosmic tide that we would feel universally. We may not remember what is lining up, or at what cosmic or galactic address. We may not remember whether we've ever passed this way before, or whether this is a higher octave of a previous familiar cycle. But this tidal download would shake up humanity. It would create a fresh energetic matrix within which old dissonant forms would fall away and new ones would begin to be born.

Are we there now?

"There is a tide in the affairs of men, which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune....On such a full sea are we now afloat. And we must take the current when it serves, or lose our ventures."  William Shakespeare
